Harlan Yaffe

April 25, 1962 ~ February 4, 2019 (age 56)

Harlan Blaine Yaffe, 56, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2019 in his condo in South Miami Beach. Harlan was born April 25, 1962 in Toledo, Ohio to Marvin and Zandra (Levine) Yaffe. He attended school in Sylvania and was a member of the inaugural class of Southview High School. He earned a State Championship award for his live auditory rendition in addition to participating in multiple stage performances. He had a lifelong love of music and theatre. Upon graduation, he attended the Kent State University and was an alumnus of the Fashion Design Institute. In a flash, he was working in the knitwear industry in Manhattan. Reinventing himself, Harlan relocated to Atlanta and crafted careers at TGIFridays and Dave & Busters. Then the big move to Florida with his cousin Sherri and her daughter Raena. Teaching himself computer code, Harlan used his graphic and fashion talents to create an income and fashioned himself a fulfilling life in Florida. Harlan was a passionate advocate for equality and anti-bullying in the LGBTQ community. He used his prolific writing ability to chronical captivating family stories that will be forever cherished. Being a mensch, he was also known for his ritual Friday morning Shabbat Shalom posts.


Harlan was loved by all and truly went out of his way to make sure everyone felt loved, respected, and appreciated. Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, Zandra L. & Marvin J. Yaffe. Surviving is his brother, Hal F. Yaffe; niece Zoe Yaffe; nephew Ben Yaffe; Aunts Barbara (Levine) Apple, Saundra (Walkin) Yaffe, and Pat Beard; and Uncle Daniel (Marcia z"l) Seiger. Harlan leaves many cousins, countless friends, fans & followers.

Services will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Robert H. Wick/Wisniewski Funeral Home, 2426 N. Reynolds Road. Interment Beth Shalom Cemetery Oregon, Ohio. Meal of condolence following interment for family. The family will be observing Shiva in the home of Rene and Richard Rusgo on Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Thursday from 1:00 -3:00 p.m. & 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.


Memorial donations are suggested to Congregation B'nai Israel and the Zoe & Ben Yaffe B'nai Tzedek Fund- Jewish Federation of Greater Toledo.
